Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Welcome to FlySpot. A free, not-for-profit, community-owned directory of Australian disc golf courses, operated by Jarrath Sweetten (“FlySpot”, “we”). These terms are deliberately short and written to be understood. By using FlySpot or creating an account, you agree to them.
1. The deal
FlySpot is free. No ads, no paywall, no premium tier. In return, we ask three things: contribute honestly, treat people decently, and don’t wreck it for everyone else.
2. Your account
Accounts are passwordless: you sign in with an emailed code or with Google. You’re responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your email account secure. One account per person. You must be at least 15 years old. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms (see the moderation policy).
3. Acceptable use
Don’t post content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or spam. Don’t post other people’s private information. Don’t misrepresent course conditions or reviews (no fake reviews, no review-bombing, no rating your own club’s course into the stratosphere from six accounts). Don’t scrape the site in bulk. There is a public course API you can use instead, and a key raises your rate limit; we’re friendly about handing them out. Don’t attempt to break, overload, or bypass the security of the service.
4. Your content, what you give, what you keep
This is the important section. FlySpot exists because players contribute reviews, photos, condition updates, and course knowledge. Here’s exactly what happens to what you contribute:
4.1 You keep ownership.Your photos and words remain yours. You’re licensing them, not handing them over.
4.2 Only upload what’s yours to share. By contributing, you confirm you created the content (or have the right to share it) and that it doesn’t infringe anyone else’s copyright or privacy. Don’t upload photos lifted from other sites or apps.
4.3 Public licence. CC BY-NC 4.0. You license every contribution to the public under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International. In practice: anyone may share and adapt your contribution for non-commercial purposes with credit to you; commercial use requires separate permission from you. This is what lets clubs, the national and state disc golf bodies, and the community freely reuse the knowledge you share. While stopping commercial apps and data harvesters from taking it for paid products. Full licence text: creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0.
4.4 Attribution.Credit is your display name (linked to your profile). If you later delete your account and choose to leave your contributions in place, they’re credited to “Former contributor.”
4.5 It’s irrevocable.CC licences can’t be taken back once granted, that’s what makes a community knowledge base durable. You can, however, delete your own contributions at any time (removing them from FlySpot), or delete your whole account (see the Privacy Policy).
4.6 Direct licence to FlySpot.Separately from the public licence, you grant FlySpot a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to host, store, resize, adapt (e.g. thumbnails and crops), publish, and distribute your contributions as part of operating and promoting FlySpot, including in our partner data feeds to disc golf organisations. This licence exists so the site itself never depends on interpreting “non-commercial”; it does notpermit us to sell your content, and we won’t put contributor photos on merchandise without your separate, explicit consent.
4.7 Editing and versioning. Course descriptions and structured course data are collaboratively maintained; your edits may be revised by other contributors, club managers, or administrators, with history retained.
4.8 Content from the previous FlySpot site (archive content). Some photos and text were carried over from the earlier FlySpot website. That material is notcovered by the CC BY-NC licence above: its original contributors never agreed to these terms, and in some cases the original source isn’t recorded. Archive content is shown credited as “FlySpot archive” (or the original contributor where known), may not be reused under the CC licence, and is being progressively replaced by community contributions. If you believe archive content shouldn’t be here, because it is yours or it infringes someone’s rights, contact us / use the takedown process and we’ll act promptly.
5. Course information, use your judgement
FlySpot’s course information is contributed by the community and can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Courses change, close, flood, and grow rogue magpies. Information on FlySpot is general information only, not advice. Check locally before travelling long distances, respect private property and posted signage, and play at your own risk. Disc golf is an outdoor physical activity; you’re responsible for your own safety and for complying with course rules and local laws.
FlySpot is not a safety service.Hazard and wildlife reports are one player’s observation at one moment, not a warning system: a snake nobody reported is still a snake, and a magpie reported last spring may be long gone.
6. Our liability
To the extent permitted by law, FlySpot is provided “as is” and we exclude liability for loss arising from your use of the service or reliance on its content, including third-party contributions. Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded; where liability can’t be excluded but can be limited, it’s limited to re-supplying the service. (Given the service is free, we hope you’ll agree this is fair.)
7. Moderation, strikes, and takedowns
See the Moderation & Takedown Policy below, which forms part of these terms.
8. Changes and ending things
We may update these terms; material changes will be noted on the site with a new date. You can stop using FlySpot or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, following the moderation policy.
9. Legal bits
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

Moderation & Takedown Policy
FlySpot is moderated by the community first and a human second. Here’s how it works, openly.
Publishing rules
- Ratings, reviews, and condition updates publish instantly for everyone. Low friction is the point.
- Photos and videos from brand-new accounts are briefly held for a quick check (usually the account’s first few uploads). Once you’ve made a few contributions, your uploads publish instantly too.
- Course edits and new course submissions from newer accounts are reviewed by experienced community members, club managers, or administrators before applying. Established contributors’ edits apply immediately, with every change logged and reversible.
Trust levels
Accounts earn standing through contributions: new accounts graduate automatically as they contribute across courses over time. Higher standing means more publishes instantly. Club managers are verified real-world club officers with full editing rights over their own courses. There are no purchased tiers. Standing on FlySpot is earned, never bought.
Reporting content
Every review, photo, and condition update has a report option. Reports go to a human. If a report is upheld, the content is unpublished and the author may receive a strike.
Strikes
- Strikes are only ever issued by a human upholding a report. Never automatically.
- You’ll always be told when you receive one, why, and what it means. No silent punishment.
- One active strike puts moving up on hold. Two active strikes move you down a step. Strikes expire after 12 months; a clean year restores a clean record.
- To appeal, use the contact link in the strike notice. A human reads every appeal.
- Serious or repeated abuse (spam operations, harassment, deliberate misinformation about course access or safety) can result in account suspension without the strike ladder.
Copyright and other takedown requests
If content on FlySpot infringes your copyright or otherwise shouldn’t be here (e.g. it contains your personal information):
- Report it via the report link on the content, or email hello@flyspot.com.au with the page link and the reason.
- We aim to review takedown requests promptly. Normally within a few days (FlySpot is run by one volunteer).
- If the claim checks out, the content comes down and the contributor is notified. Repeat infringers lose upload rights.
We may also remove content or freeze accounts at our discretion to comply with the law or protect the community.
